New Season/New Trends: Design Updates for Fall

by Shane Kalminski

As the weather cools and the leaves change color, it’s easy to feel inspired during the start of a Chicago Fall. The crisp air is refreshing and the warmth of cozy sweaters and blankets bring a sense of comfort and relaxation.

Autumn is here and with a new season comes new trends. Here are a few design and style movements you’ll see emerge a lot over the next few months.

As interiors move toward a more curated look, furniture that matches too well is now looking outdated. Try to mix and match pieces that complement one another but merge time periods and styles.

No two chairs at this table are the same, but the look is beautiful and chic. The tribal mask is boldly paired with a modern print above.

Rich, saturated colors make gorgeous accents this season. Don’t be afraid to incorporate colors like emerald green or ruby red into your space.

Re-imagining retro, contemporary pieces with clean lines and organic shapes is still on trend with inspirations derived from the 1960s.

Shabby-chic, homemade looks are also in this season with soft and delicate furniture in muted blush tones. The idea is to incorporate items that remind you of visiting your Grandma and offer a feeling of nostalgia and daintiness.

Staying on trend is the color gray, a perfect neutral palette for any space.

Bringing nature indoors will also stay big this Fall;  Try bringing in antlers, botanicals or hand-carved wooden accessories for a look that’s modern, but with character and energy.

Adding seasonal elements to a home should be a fun, stress-free project. Look for your own inspiration while taking a brisk walk or while enjoying a pumpkin latte. Choose a few trends that you like and find a way to make them uniquely yours!
