Ask the Designer: Unifying Curtains

Matt in Edgewater asked:

“How should I treat windows in my open-concept living room/dining room/kitchen?”

A:

“Windows have a unique way of relating one space to another. Even when windows are different shapes and heights, they should be treated with similar colors and textures.

In the case of an open concept where you want to separate the functions of each room, you should still keep the fabric, color and style the same.

However if you have a window that you’d like to use as a focal point to showcase a particular view, you can treat it with a different accent color in a same style and fabric as the other windows.

Stay away from treating open-concepts with bold colors or patterns because it could overwhelm your space.”
